As the holidays approach, we’re reminded of the warmth and generosity that make this time of year so special. It’s a season that calls on us to give back, to spread kindness, and to connect with our loved ones. This year, we invite you to make your giving truly impactful. By donating to FemiliPNG Australia, you can help us support critical services for survivors of family and sexual violence in Papua New Guinea – ensuring they have access to the resources, safety, and support they need to rebuild their lives.

FemiliPNG Australia is endorsed as a Deductible Gift Recipient by the Australian Taxation Office. All donations over $2 are tax-deductible.

Regular Giving

As a free case management service, Femili PNG relies on donations to ensure long-term and sustainable programs are available for survivors of family and sexual violence in PNG. Regular giving means FemiliPNG Australia receives a steady income stream to support Femili PNG’s vital services.

Donations to FemiliPNG Australia are tax-deductible, and are an effective way to contribute to an exciting, locally-led initiative to tackle gender-based violence in Papua New Guinea.

Christmas Online Auction 2024

As the holidays approach, we’re reminded that this time of year can be challenging for many of us. For some, it’s a season filled with joy and laughter, while for others, it’s a time that can bring feelings of loss, distance, or stress. If this time of year is difficult for you, know that there’s no right way to experience the holidays.

For survivors of violence in Papua New Guinea, Christmas can be particularly difficult as they cope with separation from loved ones, trauma, and the uncertainty of rebuilding their lives. Femili PNG provides critical support to survivors, ensuring they have access to the services and safety they deserve – including during these challenging times.

Your involvement in our online Christmas auction offers a unique way to make a difference. By placing a bid, you’re not only selecting a heartfelt gift for your loved ones – you’re also helping sustain vital services for survivors. Each bid you place is a meaningful step toward ensuring women and children in PNG have access to safe housing, medical care, counselling, legal support, and other essential resources as they work to rebuild their lives.

You can also consider making a donation in honour of someone special. This gesture, whether part of your gift-giving or a simple act of compassion, shows your commitment to ensuring all women have access to the family and sexual violence services they deserve. A personalised e-card will let your loved one know their gift is making an impact where it’s needed most.

This holiday season, join us in making every gift count. Explore our auction items or consider making a donation today.

#RunforFemiliPNG 2025

On Sunday 13th April 2025, the #RunforFemiliPNG team will be lacing up our running shoes for the Canberra Times Marathon Festival! All funds raised will support essential services for women who are survivors of family and sexual violence in Papua New Guinea. These women deserve the opportunity to rebuild their lives, and Femili PNG connects them to the critical support they need, empowering their journey toward healing and recovery.

Workplace Giving

Workplace giving involves employees making small, automatic donations from their pre-tax pay though their employer’s payroll system. It can be complemented by company donation matching.

By implementing a workplace giving program at your organisation, you can help us to support survivors of family and sexual violence in PNG.

Office Coffee Subscription

Femili PNG Coffee is an award-winning, full-body coffee with delicious chocolate and citrus undertones. Our green coffee beans are grown by female farmers in the Western Highlands of PNG, and roasted to-order in Canberra, Australia. Every purchase supports life-changing services for survivors of family and sexual violence in PNG.

Your whole office will feel great drinking our coffee, knowing every sip makes a meaningful difference.

Femili PNG Coffee

Women’s contribution to the coffee sub-sector is often undervalued and poorly documented. However, despite being a traditionally male-dominated sector, a significant part of the PNG coffee industry is made up of women. Coffee has become a vital source of sustainable income for many women in remote communities, where there are limited other opportunities to make a living.

Our Femili PNG Coffee is grown by members of the Ukuni Women’s Association, located remotely in the Western Highlands of PNG. This cooperative was formed in 2010, with the aim of providing opportunities to female coffee growers. It has 194 registered members, who together farm over 720,000 coffee trees. By supporting their participation in the coffee industry, we financially empower local women and their families – enabling them to build meaningful, sustainable lives.

Our coffee beans are grown naturally, free from chemicals and pesticides, at higher than 1600 metres above sea level. The Ukuni women pick the beans by hand, and dry them in a coffee house located inside the village. They are then stored in a central storage unit, until they can be transported to their next location. With rich volcanic soils and a relatively consistent average temperature of 16-24°C, the Western Highlands have some of the world’s best conditions for growing coffee.

FemiliPNG Australia then work with local coffee buyers, who help to supply the green coffee beans to Australia. PNG is located just 4km away from Australia’s closest island. This limits carbon emissions, as our coffee beans do not need to be transported across the world. The local coffee buyers also assist with training and resources for the female farmers.

Our coffee beans are roasted to order in Canberra, Australia, and sealed to ensure freshness. Our roaster, Niugini Arabica, specialise in roasting PNG coffee beans and know exactly how to bring out their unique flavours and aromas. The end result is a full-bodied coffee with delicious chocolate and citrus undertones. Our coffee received a bronze medal at the 2023 Royal Adelaide Coffee Show, in the ‘Latte Single Origin’ category!

Every sip supports Femili PNG to link survivors of family and sexual violence with the help they need.

Reusable Coffee Cups

Fressko aims to eliminate take-away cup culture by bringing you stylish, BPA-free, lightweight reusable coffee cups. FemiliPNG Australia partnered with Fressko to produce sustainable 8oz and 12oz cups as a fundraiser for Femili PNG’s vital case management services.

Each cup has a stainless steel insulated inner that keeps drinks hot for up to 3 hours, while its outer stays cool to the touch. It also has barista-friendly measurement lines, and fits under standard coffee machines (and in most car cup holders!). The cup has a scratch-proof body, slip-resistant base and spill-proof screw on lid with a click lock.

The artwork on this cup was designed by Papua New Guinean artist Lesley Wengembo. Lesley was born in Goroka and raised in Port Moresby. He started painting in 2012 when he followed his mum to a monthly craft market at Moresby National Art Theatre. There, he saw the work of the late Martin Morobubuna and was influenced by his work. In recent years, Lesley’s work has focused on hyper-realistic portraiture in oils. He loves painting faces and feels it connects him to his culture and Papa New Guinean identity. Lesley has been a two-time Archibald Prize entrant.

Bilums

The craft of bilum weaving has been passed down to Papua New Guinean women from their mothers and grandmothers across generations. Bilums not only hold great cultural significance, but they also serve as an opportunity to support women’s participation in the local economy. The pattern of each bilum tells a unique story – reflecting the current life events of the weaver, their familial and cultural history, and the Province in which they are from.

Since opening in 2014, Femili PNG has provided over 6,100 survivors of family and sexual violence with access to safe accommodation, law and justice interventions, medical assistance, and more. All bilum sales go directly towards supporting Femili PNG’s life-changing services.

T-Shirts and Tote Bags

Our mission at FemiliPNG Australia is to be an effective, efficient, and ethical organisation supporting local solutions to family and sexual violence in PNG. This mission underlies everything we do, from the way we collaborate with Femili PNG, to the t-shirts and tote bags we choose to fundraise with.

As expertly explained by The Common Good Co.“you cannot exploit women and children in one country to empower them in other”.

If we are to truly achieve our mission of being an ethical organisation, the t-shirts and tote bags we sell and wear must also be ethical.

This led us to partner with The Common Good Co – a t-shirt company with a real commitment to sustainable and ethical production. They’re B-Corp and Fairtrade certified – making them leaders in the global movement for an inclusive, equitable, and regenerative economy. All their t-shirts are ethically made in India from 100% recycled materials, reducing the amount of waste that ends up in landfills and the oceans.

Our Work

While violence affects us all, violence against women and girls is one of the most pervasive human rights violations in the world. Globally, one in three women will experience violence in their lifetime. In PNG, that rate increases to two in three. The reasons why family and sexual violence happen are many and complex. Femili PNG and FemiliPNG Australia believe that complexity is not a barrier to action.

As a Papua New Guinean non-profit, Femili PNG runs free support centres for survivors of family and sexual violence in Lae, Port Moresby and Goroka. They also operate the Bel is PNG safe house in Port Moresby.

Since opening in 2014, Femili PNG has helped over 6,100 clients access legal interventions, medical assistance, safe accommodation, financial support, and more. They also undertake outreach in communities and schools, to raise awareness about violence and the help available. They train community leaders to support survivors in locations they can’t reach directly; and collaborate closely with other service providers to enhance their impact.

FemiliPNG Australia is an Australian support organisation for Femili PNG. We recognise that local people, communities and organisations are best-placed to respond to the needs of PNG families. That’s why we put Femili PNG at the centre of all our work – with them leading the way and us operating in support. Our focus is on providing difficult-to-source technical, project, and financial skills to extend Femili PNG’s reach and impact. All the funds we raise go directly towards supporting Femili PNG’s life-changing services.
